About Me
I grew up in a city where compelling storytelling could give voices to the marginalised and robust investigation could scrutinise power.
With a passion for such reporting, I attended journalism school at university, edited a student-run publication, interned at a local newspaper and worked part-time at a radio station.
Simulated by my studying-abroad year in the US, I took up a reporter role at an international desk of a Hong Kong major newspaper.
News often unfold in unexpected ways. In 2019, waves of pro-democracy protests made my hometown a new regular on international news headlines. The crackdowns on civil society and independent journalism that followed shrank the space for meaningful reporting.
During the turmoil, I moved to London with a determination to continue my journalism work outside of the city.
I obtained an MSc in Global Affairs from King’s College London and started reporting, producing and researching for the BBC World Service and the BBC Chinese Service. I mainly produce stories about Hong Kong and China’s politics and society. I am also an assistant editor at Dialogue Earth, an independent publication covering global environmental issues. I commission, edit and write stories about the ocean and biodiversity.
