About Me

I grew up in a city where compelling storytelling could give voices to the marginalised and robust investigation could scrutinise power.

With a passion for such reporting, I attended journalism school at university, edited a student publication, interned at a local newspaper and worked part-time at a radio station in Hong Kong. After a year of studying journalism in the US, I joined the international desk of a major Hong Kong newspaper as a reporter.

News often unfolds in unexpected ways. In 2019, waves of pro-democracy protests made my hometown a regular on international news headlines. The following crackdowns on civil society and independent journalism shrank the space for meaningful reporting.

During the turmoil, I moved to London with a determination to continue my work outside of the city.

I obtained an MSc in Global Affairs from King’s College London and began reporting and producing for the BBC World Service. I mainly produce stories about human rights and society. I am also a deputy ocean editor at Dialogue Earth, an independent publication covering global environmental issues. I commission, edit and write stories about the ocean and biodiversity. My work has also appeared on the Guardian, DeSmog and Earth.Org.

In whatever roles I play, I always seek to achieve the journalism that inspired me in the first place.
